Just before the new year, I stumbled across a post from Ali Edwards about One Little Word http://aliedwards.com/2013/12/one-little-word-2014.html . Basically, the concept is to pick one word that will become your mantra for the year or to quote Ali “You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.”
What a great idea. After a few days of thinking – I decided I wanted to pick One Word. I thought about plan, simplify and present but ultimatley settled on PLAN. I like it! And it is challenging. So often I allow others or outside events to plan for me. Thats ok sometimes, but I should be in the drivers seat more.
You may be wondering how it is going so far. Well, I continue to plan meals for my family a week at a time. This helps me grocery shop and it allows me to avoid the panic of ‘what on earth will I make for dinner tonight’ at 5 in the afternoon. It also cuts down on last minute runs to the grocery store. My husband and I sat down and planned our year with regards to house projects and what vacations we would like to take. And we have plans to entertain or organize more evenings out with friends.
Now you might be thinking, what does any of this have to do with stitching? A lot as it turns out. I am also planning to stitch from my stash this year. I will be stitching projects I’ve already started and PLAN to finish many. If I start a new project, it will be from a chart I already own. I have some fibers and some fabric, so as much as possible, I will stitch from what I have. If I have to purchase some fabric or fibers, I have set a budget of $25 per month. As tempting as it is to buy more, I’ve come to realize that I have enough stitching stuff to keep me busy for at least 2 lifetimes. This concept of stitching from stash was inspired by Mel over at http://epicstitching.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page.html who has organized a year long project called Stitch from Stash Group 2014. The group filled before I got a chance to join so I am following along.
Here are two projects I am working on. Both are SALs and this gives me confidence that I will actually finish them. One is Dorothy Walpole from Scarlet Letter and the other is Mouline Rouge from Long Dog. I have posted pictures of Mouline Rouge in the past.
Share your One Word and join me in stitching from stash! Now off to stitching and planning!
